We woke up early this morning to the first proper rain we've had since getting to Queenstown :-( After an hour online, we ran into a pub for lunch to escape the rain, whcih got worse while we were inside! We had a bit of a wait for our food as a large group of reporters had just arrived before us. When it DID eventually arrive, Laura's order was wrong - we got two free beers for all of the delays though so that cheered us up! My hotpot was good, perfect for a rainy day, but Laura wasn't impressed with her beef sandwich - can't win 'em all!
We drove to check in at QBox (where we'd stayed over the weekend) and read for a while, before getting ready for our bar crawl around Queenstown with a company called Kiwi Crawl. For $25 each, we got 6 free drinks, entry to the Ice bar (normally $32!) and discounts in each bar we visited. By the time we set off into town, the weather had changed and the sun was out! First, we headed to our new 'local', Malbas, where we could get the cheapest beer in NZ (so far) - huge jugs of beer for $5! Our crawl started in the World Bar so we headed there for 9:30pm - live music had just started and they were pretty good so we listened for a while and had a couple of teapot cocktails (see photo!). These were served in a teapot and you poured out your own shots of the cocktail. Now, we don't even use a teapot for tea at home (who still does?) so we had a few spillages to begin with!
The bar crawl 'leader' came over and told us that only 8 of us had signed up, but we were going anyway! We went to a few different bars, including the Ice Bar, where we were given warm coats and gloves before heading inside. The temperature is kept at -5 degrees, so it was pretty chilly! We got talking to a couple of Canadians who were 'crawling' with us, and had a good night. On the walk home, Laura managed to fall over and scrape her knee, but that was our only injury of the night! We're done with Queenstown now, time to head to Wanaka tomorrow!
