This morning we were aiming to have a cheaper day after an expensive weekend! We started by sleeping in late after being woken up by the DOC guy at 7am - managed to go back to sleep until about 10am!
After driving back into Queenstown, trying to escape the annoying biting sandflies, we went to use the internet for a while. We're still on the hunt for a 'proper' engagement ring for Laura, so we called into a jewellers who turned out to be very helpful. Laura tried on lots of rings and got lots of advice but didn't managed to find 'the one'...yet! The woman said that she'll know when she has straight away!
For lunch we went to Fergbakery (next door to Fergburger!) for some delicious pies - Laura had one with pork belly in and I had a steak and cheese one - think I've worked out my favourite pie flavour now after months in NZ! We also stopped for a pint at Monty's - summer ale for Laura and Radler (a bit like Corona but without having to use a lime!) for me. We wandered around town for a while and after searching found Williams Cottage - Queenstown's oldest home. It was a tiny place with a view of the lake and it has been kept close to it's original condition, including the original 1930s wallpaper! It's now the home of a shop called Vesta, selilng household stuff, jewellery and art made in NZ - a hidden gem of a place and free to get in!
After our day in town, we headed back to the DOC site and cooked bangers and smash for tea, washed down with a few more Radler!
