We woke up early today, not managing to get back to sleep after our 7am call from the DOC guy! We decided to go to the local swimming baths for a swim and a shower!
We arrived just after 9am and spent a few hours swimming and relaxing in the lazy river and spa. After showering, we drove to nearby Arrowtown which sprang up in the 1860s following the discovery of gold in the Arrau River. The town still has a lot of the original wooden and stone buildings and is a very pretty little place. It helped that it was a lovely sunny day too!
Our first stop in the town was the Lakes District Museum and Gallery, which had a lot of interesting exhibits from the gold-rush era. There was even an old schoolhouse, along with a newspaper printers and some traditional rooms from houses with furniture donated from local families.
After the musuem, we had a walk down the high street, browsing the shops (still no suitable rings!) and then went to a Thai restaurant for a cheap lunch deal. After lunch, we had a walk along the river, followng a walking track. They were doing some work on one part of the track, so instead of completing the loop, we had to turn around after half an hour and walk back the way we'd come!
We treated ourselves to ice creams after the walk, and ate them in the park. After looking around the rest of the town, we then drove back to the DOC site, after stopping at the supermarket to grab a sandwich and crisps for tea. Another quiet night at the DOC site for us...
