We had a terrific day today! We had set our alarm for 6am to try and get out to see the sunrise but we didn't manage to get up in time for that. Instead we were up and ready to go by 9am. Just a few hours later.
We hired bikes from the hostel and set out towards the river. I was pretty rusty on riding a bike and we had to spend a while practising in an empty carpark before we could go any further. Luckily Shannon was a patient teacher.
For breakfast we had some sponge like cakes and herb flavoured water (lavender and lemongrass) at a place called Herb Cafe before we hit the bike tracks.
The first stretch was pretty horrible for me and I was quite nervous and shaky on the bike. We actually ended up cycling in the wrong direction and to the wrong place initially but the bike practice was good.
We eventually got on track and had to cross this long bridge that had cars driving alongside us which I didn't like much but we managed to make it to the Music Museum.
The Music Museum was a beautifully landscaped grounds with a few different buildings and attractions. We explored the various shops and the History Hall where there were many old music boxes. My favourite was a bear one that blew out bubbles. We also watched the worlds biggest organ do a performance of two songs, one of which was When The Saints Come Marching In.
We had lunch in the museum cafe was which a bit ordinary before exploring more of the museum. Shannon bought a music box of his own from the shop which was pretty cool.
After a coffee at the museum cafe, we headed back out on our bikes and made our way around the lake to the ropeway. I was still pretty shaky on my bike but a little bit better.
We parked our bikes and then went to the top of the ropeway where we got some really great photos of Fuji-san and did a bit of a hike up to the top to get even better views.
When we got back down to the bottom we stopped in at Fujiyama Cookie Store to buy some Fuji cookies and then we rode around the lake a little further and paid ¥2000 to go on a paddle swan boat for 30mins. We paddled about the lake for a bit but it was actually pretty tiring and cold so we started to make our way back to sure at after 20mins.
Once we got back to land we retrieved our bikes and started the short trek home. For some reason I was so much more confident and comfortable on my bike by this point so we cruised on home we almost no trouble and even stopped to take some photos of ourselves riding the bikes.
We found an arcade that was on the way home and we stopped to play a few games and then Shannon had a go of the pitching and batting cages.
We stopped back at the hostel for a bit to drop our bikes back and then we went in search of dinner where we ended up having ramen. A really tasty ramen actually where Shannon even ate all of the broth which is very in-Japanese.
After picking up some breakfast things from the supermarket we dropped them back at the hostel and got our stuff together to go to the nearby onsen.
It was a bit pricey (¥1000 each) but we went on in and ended up having a very lovely time. We had a decent wash (the shower at our hostel is absolutely awful) and a nice hot bath. We left feeling very refreshed and clean.
We are back at the hostel now just chilling out and waiting to use the washing machine. Tomorrow we leave for Osaka, our last stop for the trip, which is quite sad. I've had a great time in Kawaguchiko.
