Jess's Overseas Adventures!
Hi!
Its been a little while, but I guess things have kind of settled into a routine. I'm over my flu/cold thing which is great as when I was sick the cigarette smoke at work seemed even worse and I felt like I could taste it!
At the moment, I seem to be working monday and wednesday afternoons for Laura and maybe another week day if she needs me. Then I work about 3 or 4 shifts at the bar, from thursday to sunday.
Nannying is going really well, and I'm getting used to the routine of making Louis supper, and putting him to bed after his bath and everything. I also pick him up from school now as well when Laura needs me to, I had to meet the teacher first though. I also just help Laura out with cooking, so I will cook up carrots or other vegetables and freeze them in ice cube trays for Grace.
Also, I'm pretty sure I will be going to France with the family the day after my birthday, as Louis is on half-term holidays. We are getting the train to Provence, which is an 8 hour journey and staying for a week.
The bar is going well. On Sunday night we all went out to a party at a club called Cafe De Paris in central London. It was sponsored by an alcohol distributer called Maxxium and it was for the bicentennial of the cocktail. I had to work until 12 ish but went afterwards with other work people. Had a great time but I had to Nanny monday afternoon so I didn't stay as late as everyone else and left about 3.
Other things I have been up to... Last week I went to Hyde Park, as I hadn't been before. I walked from home which prolly took about half an hour and then spent an hour or so walking around. Its so massive its unbelievable. There are a few photos in the albums - nothing too thrilling though! I'm quite impressed with my squirrel shot though! I also caught up with James Begley from home, who is over here at the moment and staying with family in Crouch End. It was a really warm day - about 27 - so we sat on the grass laughing at all the people who were treating it like a beach and sunbaking in their underwear.
Also, on Tuesday I caught up with Debbie and Jack Valkonen - some family friends from home - and their kids Lauren and Sam. They were doing a bus tour type thing, so I joined them at the London Dungeons and we did that together. I'd heard that it was really scary and on the website they warn you that if you have a nervous disposition etc then you shouldn't do it. But we were all a bit disappointed. Its basically like an upscale version of a ghost train but you walk around and there are different rooms where "Live actors,, shows and special effects transport you to London's gory past." (that's off the website!) But it was pretty tame and not as much actual historical information - I thought it was going to be like a scary museum type thing, but no. Also, our group was full of annoying 15 year old Dutch school kids so we got really fed up with them after about 5 minutes.
Anyway after that, we got a cab back to their hotel where they gave me some haighs from parentals (thank you!) and some things I couldn't fit in my suitcase. Caty, Kelly and Jessie, I forgot to pack the necklace you gave me... eek! But they brought it over so I have it on now - and I already got compliments about it at work! We went out to dinner at a place called Ping Pong near Oxford St, which was basically yum cha style Chinese - so yummy! The menu was all spring rolls, steamed wontons, dumplings, little chicken pastry things etc. And Jack just ordered a whole heap of things and it arrives in those Chinese steaming baskets. So so yummy, but I ate so much!
Well that's basically about it - I don't have too many plans for my birthday. In fact, at the moment I'm working a double shift as it's a Sunday! But I guess that's my punishment for needing a week off for the next week to go to France. So I think I'm working 11 til 5, then 8 til 11. But I'm hoping one of the waitresses won't mind doing the day shift so I can maybe do something during the day!
I'll try and take some photos of work and the bar etc to put on here. I did take some at the party on Sunday but they're all a bit drunk and disorderly of my work friends, so they're not the best!
Lots of love
xx
