Jess's Overseas Adventures!
Hi everyone!
Its 7:20pm here on Saturday night. I can't write for too long cos I have to go home, eat some quick dinner and then I'm going out with one of Tav's friends, Adam (Caty, he's really good friends with Liz) and some of his friends in Islington. Wasn't really planning on doing anything tonight, but I'm super glad I am.
I moved into my place last night, I love it! Before you look at my photos of it, I'm preparing you that my room is tiny but its perfect. The lounge room is lovely so I can spend time in there, and hopefully I will be working a lot so I won't need to hang around the apartment too much. It didn't have a bed so I had to buy one. I ended up finding a fantastic used single bed in Hackney on gumtree, it even came with a beautiful dusky pink headboard and it included a bed frme. I might buy a thin latex mattress to put on top of the existing one but it will do in the meantime. I also bought some nice pillows and a mattress cover so its really nice to have my own room to sleep in!
I had to go to Hackney to get it (30 min tube ride and then separate 15 min train ride from Liverpool St on different system then 10 walk). Luckily Tav came with me which was brilliant. The seller referred me to a reliable delivery guy he knew, so he met us at the house and delivered it to notting hill for 25 pounds, we got a lift back with him too which was good. (25 might sound like a lot but i got a quote from a company for 850!!!! Ridiculous) So i settled in nicely last night, and today I went to the markets to buy some stuff for my room. I bought some rose lights (like fairy lights but with a rose around them) from a shop on portobello, I had had my eye on them the other day, and now I had an excuse to buy them! Also bougth 3 metres of this brown ish fabric that has sparkle through it for 3 pounds which I used to make curtains with safety pins for my window - see photos. They even slide across and everything, nice! I'm borrowing a spare quilt of Gudren's (flatmate) which is beautiful and patchworked until mine arrives, thanks parents!
Gudren is great, she's from Sydney and works at Italian vogue. She's got the flu at the mo, so I made chicken soup for her today. I bought a boiling hen from the markets and made it from scratch, proud ma!? he he
Um, what else... the place is 5 minutes walk from Laura's place and portobello etc, and also 5 minutes from my new bar job! I got a job as floor staff - that's the manager's term, so basically waitress - at a place called Montgomery Place on Kensington Park Rd which is parrallel to Portobello. It opens on wednesday so I will training on tuesday. I think i will be working all weekends - they will open at about 11 i think - and a few nights a week. They are open from 4 til 12 every day during the week. The have a cocktail list with about 50 different types I think, all classic 30s/40s ones I think and platter type food. Should be good, I'll let you know.
Laura and the family go to France for Easter on Thursday so I will probably work a lot at Montgomery while they are gone.
Anyway, gotta run and get organised for tonight!
lots of love
xx
