Arrived in Mataranka and set up at the Bitter Springs Caravan Park. We were excited to get here and experience for ourselves the hot springs that everyone talks about. So after a quick set up we walked the 500m or so from the park to Bitter Springs. This a 150 long natural thermal spring with beautiful clear water at about 32 degrees. We got in one end and floated our way to the other and walked the short distance back to the start to do it again. Was really very relaxing, even Tully seems somewhat subdued floating on his back staring up at the sky. Our second day here began with a look around the town before heading out to the Mataranka Thermal Pool. This is more of a traditional pool with a more structured bench around the majority of the circular shaped area. This one was probably a degree or so warmer but because it is more of a sitting pool not as interesting. Once very wrinkly we decided we needed lunch and sat at the recreated Mataranka homestead for our picnic. This homestead was recreated for a movie "We of the never never" originally a novel written about life on a remote station years ago. Jarrod thinks he may have been forced to watch the movie at school. From here we headed back to Bitter Springs for another swim before our tummies were rumbling again! As it stands at the moment we really do have plenty of time to get home. Slightly ahead of our original schedule and with plans to be home by August 10-14 we can definitely afford to take our time. So with that in mind we decided on another night here to make the most of the weather and the opportunity to swim! So day 3 was a repeat, Mataranka thermal pool and Bitter Springs. Only broken up with a famous Mataranka Pie for lunch. This was no rival to the Augusta Pie. The only real highlight was the size. It was enormous. Happy to have burned that off with all the swimming. Daly Waters tomorrow and we are looking forward to seeing the famous Pub.
