Deciding against a second night at Gem Tree we made a dash for Alice Springs. Excited to reach civilisation we grabbed a few essentials before heading out to the West MacDonnell National Park. We made our way along the main road, stopping at Simpsons Gap and the Ochre Pits. Both spectacular landscapes and just a taste of what was to come. We made camp at the Glen Helen Gorge. This was a caravan park rather than the camp ground area as we were keen to power to run a heater with the nights getting very cold! Walked the Glen Helen Gorge but Tully was gorged out so was a quick photo and back to relax. The night was cold and the showers were terrible so we were keen to escape the next morning and finish the rest of the national park. But we did awake to a vivid sunrise, definitely one of the best we have seen on the trip. Into Ormiston Gorge and Ellery Creek before a walk into Standley Chasm. All the stops were equally as impressive and with reasonably short walks to reach them everyone was happy!
