Another short drive into Tennant Creek from Banka Banka. So took the time to clean the car and van before hitting the road. It was show day in Tennant Creek so expected it to be busy. We needn't have worried the two caravan parks were virtually empty when we arrived just on lunch time. We set up and did a quick stock up at the supermarket, the only place open due to the show. The town has really nothing much to report. A big population of Aboriginal people and as a white person you felt very out of place. The Caravan park was very basic and had really no atmosphere, so we were glad for our one night and quick departure. Before leaving we visited the Bill Allen Lookout, with great views over Tennant Creek and also visited the Battery Mine. Open Day at the mine to coincide with the show and we were able to do a free tour, had we paid the $115 to do this I think we would have been a bit annoyed. While the tour itself was ok, it went far too long and covered too much detail for what was essentially just a gold mine. We were bored and cranky by the time we escaped the tour at the half way point! Thankfully the sausage sizzle rejuvenated us for the 100km drive ahead.
