170kms from Mataranka to Daly Waters so only a short drive today. We arrived just before lunch and already the caravan parking area next to the pub was filling up. We were excited to park next to another Touareg, not seeing very many in our travels so far. This makes us realise we are not the only ones without a Landcruiser. So Daly Waters is all about the famous pub. It is filled with various bits and pieces from car parts, to number plates, a thong tree underwear hanging over the bar. We decided on lunch there for the famous Barra Bites and then back for dinner for the Barra and Beef BBQ! Barra Bites were great but the BBQ was even better. The meal was amazing and we were entertained by bush ballads before Tully decided chasing the laser lights all over the road with a girl in a pink tu-tu was more fun. In between the eating we visited the Stuart Tree, a tree that John Stuart presumably carved an S into on his exploration through this area. So while the tree is signed and easy to find the actual carving proves more difficult to see. We moved on to the Airport, the first international airfield in Australia. No longer in use the field has the remnants of an old hangar and aircraft. Overall Daly Waters is absolutely worth the stop. Not only for the pub but to be crammed into the caravan park with 50 odd other caravans there for the same thing. Madness!
