Day 7 (Day 2 in London):
After our breakfast at the hotel, we headed for our first destination of the day, the Tower of London. Due to inclement weather condition, a supposedly one hour guided tour around the compound was reduced to a mere 20 minute explanation in the chapel within Tower of London. After that, we walked around the place, which was known in the early days as a place of torture and death. There were video presentations along the way which helped us appreciate a little more. Oh, there was one part of the compound where in a vault, sceptres, swords, crowns and other royal items of sorts were kept; they were beautifully studded with diamonds. Very exquisite indeed.
Next, we went to Tower Bridge, a bridge famous for its mechanism of opening up for large ships to sail through it. Though carefully designed, engineered and painstakingly built, we could only appreciate the final construction. There was an Engine Room which showed us how all these processes work but, we just quickly walked through it.
Lunch was settled at Just Deli, a foodcourt-like eatery at a place where Olympics 2012 will be hosted. We were thankful to God because it rained heavily when we had lunch and the rain stopped after our lunch. It was as if it was the right thing to have our lunch during that period.
After lunch, we went to St Paul's cathedral. It was just indescribable in its magnificence and awe. What left a deep impression was its dome, which forms the skyline of the city of London, one that cannot be missed. Also, it is the Whispering gallery. We climbed some hundreds of steps before reaching the Whispering gallery. When I whispered to her from one end, she could actually hear my words vaguely. Very interesting.
Next, we went to the National Gallery. In it were portraits and paintings by famous artists. Well, I wasn't particularly appreciative of paintings and partly because they would be closing in another half an hour when we arrived, it was just a quick tour round the place, whilst listening to selected commentaries of some of the paintings.
We ended the night, watching the musical, entitled "Love never dies". It was like a continuation of the first part of "Phantom of the Opera", also written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. A fairly enjoyable treat, though the first part was definitely much better.
We got back to the hotel around 11pm and had maggie mee (by the way, it was for dinner). After that, we slept, exhausted from the long day.
