Day 2:
We set off at about 745am in the morning and drove for about 2 hours before we were greeted by the breath-taking view of Bath that stole both our hearts away.
We dropped off our car at University of Bath which had this system of "Park and Ride", which allows you to park your car at a fixed charge of £2 for the whole day and take a ride from the city area.
We first took the skyline bus tour and saw the uniformity of the buildings that are clustered together. As explained by the guide, most buildings were made of limestone and hence, the consistency of its architecture and one that was indeed a sight to behold.
After the skyline tour, we had a quick bite at "Gourmet Scoffs" near where the skyline bus dropped us off. Then, we took the city tour that took us through the entire city of Bath. With the help of a designated guide, we appreciated a lot more of this city.
Midway through the tour, we alighted and walked around the city. We headed towards the Royal Crescent and the architecture was magnificent. When we went in to tour inside, the guide told us that Bath was formerly a city of social scene and it was a city with lots of entertainment in the 18th century. I could almost imagine the vigor and the life that was brought to the city in those days.
We ended our tour with visiting the famous Romans Baths and the Bath Abby. As it was getting dark, we didn't spend much time in there.
After almost three hours of drive (in the dark and unfamiliar roads), we reached back at Studley castle. As we were both very tired, we ended the night at around 10pm but then.......
The fire alarm went off suddenly. Awoken from our deep sleep, we called the reception to find out what happened but no one pick up the call. Left with no choice, we went down to the reception and Emma didn't wear her shoes, thinking that it was only a matter of a few minutes before we could get back to our room.
To our surprise, almost the entire hotel guests were there. And we were asked to go out to the open as the fire brigade would need to investigate the cause of the alarm trigger. It was a cold night and we were shivering to the bones. Emma felt much worst as she was not wearing her shoes. Thank God that it was nothing major after the verification of the fire brigade team and we were allowed to go back to our room after almost half an hour. The hotel staff offered complimentary coffee to all the guests. Tempted initially, but I decided to just go back to the room to rest for another long day tomorrow.
