Day 6 - 12 Nov 14 - Chester
The day dawned beautifully but it was time for us to bid farewell to this enchanting city of Edinburgh. We woke up as early as 530am to get ourselves and the kids ready to check out of the apartment. By 730am, we made our way to Hertz to pick up our rented car. We were thankful that it was only about 5 minute walk from the apartment.
The wait at the Hertz was long due to the complication of the administrative procedure. I then found out that it was because of the rental charges of the cars that got us into some kind of negotiation with the staff. What happened was that the initial estimated charges vis-a-vis the final charges were unbelievably appalling. After much clarification and explanation, the staff concurred with us and he gave us the rate that was per our initial email confirmation. He even insured those who are likely to drive the car which usually, one would need to pay for additional drivers to be insured. We are thankful to God that He has watched over us and given us His favour in this episode.
We set off at 10am. Denise drove. It was an arduously long road trip. We had our pit stop for lunch about two and half hours into the journey. We resumed the driving after lunch and continued till about 430pm plus.
The en route to Chester was an enjoyable one. The view was scenic, the sky was changing from its standard clear blue accompanied by the white clouds, to the orangey sky that fell short of shining in resplendance because of the looming dark clouds. There was the occasional rain too and when it stopped, the beautiful rainbow appeared to greet us. I marvelled at my Creator who made the sky with His masterful brushes.
We checked into Innkeeper's Lodge at Chester. And we had dinner at around 6pm at The Cheshire Cat which was just downstairs. After dinner, we went back to our respective rooms as we were all exhausted from the long hours of roadtripping. We'd tour Chester tomorrow after the night's rest.
