Day 5:
We set off for Cambridge around 8am plus and after breakfast, we bade farewell to Oxford. It was about two hours drive from Oxford to Cambridge.
When we arrived at Cambridge, we first checked in to Iceni House B&B. As we didn't want to waste any time, we merely dropped the luggages and also, returned the rented car. So, in Cambridge, we were basically on our own, relying purely on public transportation and just treading on our foot.
Punting was our first activity. It was a slow, 45 minute boat ride along the River Cam. We saw the back view of several colleges and chapels and they are just magnificent in architecture. There are also several bridges that traverse the river. It was a beautiful experience, just admiring them with our faces chilled by the breeze of cold wind.
We intended to catch the city tour sightseeing but unfortunately, the last ride in operation was 355pm. The tour operator was really punctual and although we reached the designated spot where the bus was meant to pick us up, it was nowhere in sight. A little disappointed but we were even more rewarded, walking around the city area.
One of the many colleges that stand out from amongst the rest is King's College. The stately architecture indeed inspires awe. And also, not forgetting the King's College Chapel. We even went inside King's College Chapel to attend their evening services. The choral singing was impeccably perfect in pitch, though the traditional and liturgical form of prayers and responses are not what we are accustomed to; nonetheless, a memorable experience of listening to the Word of God, sung in a hymnal and classical style.
When the services ended, we went in search of a place for dinner. And it was Jamie's Italian (again). The best part was that it was not a deliberate effort to look for it but it was a stroke of luck that we chanced upon it. Hmm.... Must be we hadn't had enough of it when we were in Oxford.
After dinner, we strolled along the streets of Cambridge town. The experience was romantic. It helped that we didn't know how far or how long it would take us to reach our Iceni. Eventually, it took us about 45 minute but it was an enjoyable walk.
Tired from the long day, we slept at about 10pm.
