This week has been nice and relaxing, we came back to Tweed heads as accommodation was very expensive, there's no beaches in cairns and once you've done the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree and maybe a skydive, bungee (no thankyou) or white water rafting there's not a lot else to see.
Saturday we had an unexpected
trip down to Byron as Judy was passing through, we had a great day on the beach in the gorgeous sun, we also had a bit of a wonder around the shops and had to sample different flavours at the Gelato ice cream shop!
Sunday the weather changed dramatically, we got a nice morning to play about in the pool , and we had a good walk with Kristal to the shop at the top of the hill for a bag of chips but as soon as we got back the thunderstorm hit! Amy wasn't a happy bunny, big flashes and almighty cracks of thunder that reverberated through the floors, coupled with lashings and lashings of rain made for a good afternoon to watch harry potter and bake!
Monday was a little but nicer we got out and had a walk around the lake.
Tuesday me and Amy booked our first surf lesson! It was hilarious, I wouldn't say we were both naturals but we both managed to stand up! Amy got up on her first attempt!! It was hard work though as you really had to fight against the current to get back out to the instructor. We were in the water for about an hour and a half, at first he was pushing the boards, then we had to paddle and then catch the wave by ourselves. It was good fun and I didn't expect to be able to get up on the board at all! Before the surf lesson we went for a walk around the shops at Coolangatta and after we sat on the beach to catch some sun, this was thwarted by the rain 2 minutes into our plan! So we retreated and grabbed a nice Mexican lunch before going with Judy to pick up Kristal from school.
Wednesday was my birthday! Got up and spoke to mum and grandma and few people online, thanks for the messages whether they were direct or through others. Had a really nice day the sun came back out for me and we took a picnic to the lake a bit further along where there was a nice green park area and benches. We had tried a couple of spots but the first one there was Mossies galore and we all were bitten about 3 times in 30 seconds and the couple of other spots were alcohol free zones. Most of the time it's illegal to drink alcohol outdoors on Aus, they're very strict on it but luckily we eventually found a spot where it was acceptable between certain times as we want a toast with a bottle of bubbly! Went down well alongside fresh sourdough, dips, Camembert, grapes and crackers :). We spent quite a while down there picking at food in the hot sun then later on, after feeling very full, we ventured out for a few more celebratory drinks, a lovely hot sunny birthday down under!.... The drinks were a cover up, Ican now reveal that evening me and Amy were at Brisbane airport begining the long journey home!
