Yesterday we went to go to the Natiobal Park but we were too late as we didn't realise it was about an hours drive away so we turned around and decided to go to the cinema to watch Monuments Men, it was alright- not as good as I'd hoped but worth a watch.
Today we planned better and got to do our walk at Springbrook national park, the natural bridge walk was only 1km to and around the bridge so a pretty quick walk. The natural bridge was stunning though, an unusual geological feature created over millions of years by a waterfall which undercut a cave beneath and a pothole on top until the two joined and the creek flowed through the cave, leaving an arch across the front, it's still within aboriginal territory and ownership. It's also home to colonies of glow worms which are seen after sunset, we were excited to see this but after a shorter walk than expected we had 2 hrs to kill. We sat in a picnic area with the wild turkeys and ate some melon we had packed up in our rucksacks then decided to head off in the car to the nearest lookout point, highly recommended and promised a view for miles! Timings worked out perfectly 30mins there and 30 mins back (it's a big national park!) we drove for 25 mins through the windy roads surrounded by rainforest and then I said 'I bet we don't even...' At which point there was a small clearing in the trees where we could see the fog rolling in.. 'Were not going to see this view!' For the last 3 minutes the fog got thicker and thicker as we climbed up. We had to laugh. We parked up and started the 10 minute walk through the rainforest to the 'best of all' lookouts (this was the actual name). It was starting to get dark and with the misty fog and only the frogs around it was very very eery so we hurried along and found the viewpoint... And yup, we weren't able to see anything past the railings! Had to look up the fantastic view on google images when we got back! We drove back just in time for it to be dark at the natural bridge and after a quick 10 minute walk through the forest to the cave armed with our wind up torch and head torch we got there to find a few other torches flickering about, obviously quite a popular attraction. The cave was beautiful! At the far back walk there were a thick line of glow worms with other big clusters near by, very small but very pretty and resembling lots of little stars. Above us there were smaller groups dotted around the roof and the sides of the cave. The moonlight was catching the waterfall and the tree trunk through the middle of the water at the opening in the cave and the surrounding pools under the natural arch so it was all very magical! If it weren't for the low flying bats and Mosies about I could have stayed for hours! Unfortunately the glow worms didn't come out on cameras but I don't think a photo would have done the experience any justice at all! We got back and had a good clean of the house for Judy as she has coursework she has to get done tomorrow, plus there is a little devil of a mouse running about and causing havoc! It was very funny/quite traumatic for some last night as he decided he wanted to play in bedrooms. Amy was on her bed before squealing and running outside the front door on tiptoes saying 'I can't cope I don't know where to go' while Judy was rampaging about with her trusty softball bat swearing a little!! Amy had to come in and sleep in my room after getting in a fluster. It's still at large so well see what happens tonight, we're barricading our door closed!
