The boat to Langkawi was very choppy and people kept throwing up along the way. When we arrived at the hostel the room wasn't as nice as in Penang and it was boiling even though it didn't have a fan. We went to the beach but there were only sunbeds for people staying at the hotels not for general use like from a bar, so we had to sit on the floor with the crabs. There were hundreds and hundreds of crabs along the beach that were tiny and sand coloured so practically invisible.
The waves were really big and powerful I guess from some typhoon or something nearby as on the news there seems to be a lot of them in Asia. We ate at a Mexican/Italian place which was actually really good. I have missed Mexican food!! We had a few drinks with people in our hostel who were also head in up to Thailand soon.
The next day we organised our transport up to koh samui that would literally take a whole day. Then headed back to the beach where the sea was slightly calmer, and the weather was really nice and sunny. We headed to a Malaysian restaurant for food and the whole meal including 3 drinks came to less than £3. Bargain!
The next morning we were up early around 7:00 for our transfer back to the port to get the ferry over to mainland Thailand. The girls we were talking to the previous night were also going but going to koh tao. However they booked at the hostel and they were charged a lot more then us. They ferry crossing was fine this time. But there was a massive queue after for immigration. Once through we had to then sit at a tour office before being carted on to a shared taxi to be taken to the bus station. At the bus station we were transferred to a coach to take us half way to the next port at a place called hat yai. This took around 3 hours on a boiling coach over packed with Thai people. Not comfortable.
After this we had an hour in hat yai where we got some chicken and rice that wasn't too nice but it only cost a pound and then went to look around the tesco lotus as they are called here to buy some more snacks for the next part of the journey. The next part from hat yai to the port that took us to koh samui took another 3-4 hours. By this time it was like 9 o'clock. We arrived grumpy and tired at a tour office who said we had to pay more to take the night boat or stay a night and get the free boat in the morning. Both required us to pay more money something we didn't want to do. Eventually he 'realised' that we had already paid for the night boat and a car arrived to take us to yet another tour place. This place is where you 'get your boat ticket from' but not really he just 'checked' on the phone to see if the boat was running and obviously the first tour place was incapable of making this phone call. He said that the night boat was cancelled even though the day boats had all ran fine in the day. I was so tired and annoyed that I couldn't even be arsed pretending or actually believe him that I just sat there saying nothing thinking I would just lay on his floor and go to sleep to wait fior the day boat. I think my silence unnerved him because after a while he said he would check to see that a different night boat going to koh samui was running. Would you believe that it was?! When looking online I could only find one night boat but its amazing the lengths they go to to try and scam you and it worked for the other people who were on our mini bus going to koh tao.
We got back in the car and literally went around the corner to where a little boat floated saying it was going to koh samui. Finally. They got our tickets and we waited. It sailed at 11pm but there was a one hour time difference that we forgot about so it was actually 12am Malaysian time. We fell straight to sleep on a mattress laid on the floor of the little boat.
