The bus station we arrived at happen to be right around the corner from our hostel. The hostel owner was really really friendly and helpful and gave us a map and drew on it everywhere to go and how to get there on our timeframe.
That afternoon we walked up to the KL tower and the petronus twin towers that are the famous buildings of Kuala Lumpur. We then went to a place called the sky bar at a different hotel that has a view of the towers. The hostel owner told us to go there as its free to get into and has no dress code. But it was so pretentious! There was a swimming pool in the middle of the bar and all the tables with the view had a "waiting list" even though over half of the tables had no one sat there. And we stayed for around an hour and a half and there was still a third of the tables not filled that whole time. Such a waste. We did manage to sit for a little while in one of the two tables with the great view that didn't need a reservation. We left pretty early because we managed to by our beers in "happy hour" which was still terribly overpriced. And we weren't about to spend the proper price they charged for a beer. The view was really good though just a shame about the actual bar.
The next day we headed up to Batu caves which are a famous Hindu shrine set in some caves. And outside is a giant (worlds largest) statue of Murugan that is very pretty and good coloured. It was sweltering today in the heat so after we climbed the stairs we sat on the caves for a while as it was shaded and there were no pesky pigeons and cheeky monkeys to wreck havoc on us.
After this we headed to the colonial district of Kuala Lumpur, where first we came across a beautiful mosque and then the town hall which I assume was built by the British when we were there. The hostel owner also told us to go to the city gallery as it was free. But it was tiny !! If you liked it on Facebook they gave you a free phone charm so we got that as our only souvenir of Malaysia! In the gallery they had a massive model of the city and also showing new skyscrapers that are being built in Kuala Lumpur and what they will look like. It was nice but there really wasn't much point to going in.
After we went to the hostel so Dan could try and cool down but he couldn't as it didn't have air con so we went to get some ice cream and wait for our night train to Butterworth. The train station wasn't very clear that it even was a train station none of the info signs suggested that it had trains only metro and monorail. We asked and were told to sit in a waiting room where there were no signs of any description. Luckily everyone else was getting the train so it was fine. We didn't get woken up on this train like in China and as our stop was around 5am we were worried that we wouldn't make our stop!!
