The flight with qatar airways was pretty good, had a decent seat and a tv with tons of movies and tv shows on. Our first meal was a salad starter with chicken and veg with rice main then a cake and chocolate which was pretty decent. Later on in the flight we had a hot tandoori chicken with a sponge cake. We didnt sleep on the flight as there was too much to watch.
We arrived at half past 11 and had to get a bus from the plane to the terminal but had to get off the bus at the right stop, most got off at transfers but we had to stay on until arrivals, (business class got taken by limo to their terminal). We cleared customs and got our transfer to the radisson. We checked in and got upgraded to a business class room which was a very nice arabian style room with sofas and huge bed and bathroom.
We couldnt sleep until after 3am Doha time and had to be up at half 7 to go to breakfast. For breakfast we could go into the business lounge which we did but felt very out of place. Breakfast was good but a bit random, breads, sushi, houmous and miso soup... a random selection. We got picked up at 9 for the Qatar tour where we got into a huge land cruiser and picked up a few other people on the way. We headed straight for the desert passing oil and gas factories, the signs on the road said no photography and that cars on the road were being monitored by radar.
We got to the desert and the tour guide let the air out of the tyres while a few people rode camels. By this point it was already 40 degrees. We set off into the desert where the driver went a bit crazy and sped all through the dunes really fast, he kept driving on the edge of really steep drops making some people scream. He also kept driving down near verticle drops where it felt like the car was going to roll. It was really good fun and it lasted for a couple of hours.
We then drove into town which took ages in the traffic, it was so busy because everyone drives as there is no other way to get about but the roads were never built to handle so many people. We got dropped at a restaurant where we got a huge meal, soup for starter then fresh arabian bread with a huge bowl or homous and a bowl of salad, then came out a massive plate of barbequed meat, chicken, lamb and lamb kebab and tomato bread, aswell as a massive plate of rice and some fries, we couldnt eat dessert but it was all delicious food and was finished with a mint tea.
We left the restaurant and went into a bus, the heat was unbearable at this point. We picked up some other people at a hotel and headed to the doha museum, this was really good with loads of items covered in diamonds and gold and some interesting pieces. We went outside to look at the skyline opposite but it was so humid that the camera lenses just fogged up straight away. Next we headed to the souq which seemed really fake like we were in disneyland because it had been built up for tourists, we went in a falcon market where the guide said each was falcon was worth at least $100,000.
After this we headed to the pearl which was a massive man made island with million pound houses on it. After this we headed back to the hotel after being stuck in traffic for ages and had showers and got ready for the flight. Doha airport was pretty rubbish, we shared a kids chicken nugget meal because thats all we wanted to spend. It was really expensive for souvenirs as well, key rings costs £30, small ornaments cost about £40.
We got on the flight where we sat in the first row because we asked for a window seat and that was the last one they had, we had tons of leg room and 3 full windows in front of us and feet/leg rests which popped up which meant we were really comfortable and slept nearly the full flight only being woken up for food.
