We only really had one day to see Singapore but like other cities, unless you have lots of money to spend on things there's not that much to do. We started by heading to a place called the golden mile where we needed to book our bus ticket to Kuala Lumpur, we had to walk for a while from the metro station and it was getting very very hot. We booked our ticket and then found out that there was a much closer metro station but it just wasn't on our map. We then headed into the centre to look at the colonial district, but it wasn't very big and there wasn't a lot to look at so we headed to a food place to eat, the place where we decided to eat looked cheap but the menus didn't make sense so the waiter just asked if we liked spicy food or not then decided for us. It came and we had a full spiced chicken breast each with noodles, two veg, rice and then covered in a couple of different sauces, it was really delicious and ate every last bit.
We then headed to the raffles to get an early afternoon cocktail, mainly to escape the searing humidity. The raffles was very nice and looked very expensive. We headed to the long bar to try and get in, we weren't sure whether we would because they have a dress code and we were in shorts and t shirts. We got to the long bar and the waiter took us straight to a table, we were quite shocked we had got in to be honest. The bar was very nice and had a very old colonial feel to it, but the floor was covered in nut shells, apparently the thing to do in there is eat nuts then just throw the shells on the floor, it was a very strange but fun thing to do. We ordered two Singapore slings, an original and a summer, they worked out about £15 each but it was something we had to do. You also got the choice of a souvenir shaker for an extra 50p so we thought we might as well get two. We stayed in there for as long as we could and we went through two refills of nuts on our table, the floor around us was covered.
After we had stayed as long as possible we left to head to the harbour which had lots of tall buildings as it was next to the financial district. We sat here for a while in the shade because it was too hot to move too much. We went in a massive shopping mall where you could go up on the roof to get a view of the city which was pretty cool. After this we were pretty stuck with what to do so decided to head back to the hostel to get something to eat nearby.
We ate in the same hawker centre we did the previous night and again got two really nice meals, we then shared another £1 meal between us just because you got so much and it was so nice we felt as if we couldn't leave it. We then went back to the hostel and sat in the massage chair for a good while and then went to sleep pretty early.
The next day we got up early and went to the bus station, it was pouring it down and we got soaked but we were thankful that it didn't rain the day before. The bus we got on was luxurious, we had tonnes of leg room and the bus was only three seats wide which meant that we had an an abundance of room.
When we arrived in Kuala Lumpur we were very lucky because our hostel was about 100m from where we were dropped off, Kuala Lumpur was equally as hot as Singapore and we only had a ceiling fan in the room which was disappointing but we were only there one night.
