The picture is of me in the campsite next to the Vienne river with the chateau in the background.
I did enjoy Chinon with its cobbled lanes and ancient houses. Even had a tasty plat du jour of beef goulash in the main square.
The tourist office have a map of a suggested walking route which I did. It was sunny and hot. I walked the long way round up to the chateau and found an obscure path which ended with me and Sacha climbing between a wire fence to pop out into the reception area.
I didn't find the interior interesting as it was mostly contrived animations and screens with loud battle noises.
Walking back to the campsite and feeling tired as I had woken at 5am that morning I met a couple along the way. They were cyclists and she had been badly bitten by a dog.
We chatted and found that we had much in common, like squash, Hong Kong, Croydon of all places. Although they must have been in their sixties they seemed serious cyclists with the old drop handle bars.
They offered me a glass of wine which turned into two. It was still quite early but that just wrecked me and I crashed out and still felt dreadful later.
For Sacha there was a fun beach area with gently flowing water which loved to swim in and cool off.
