Cloudy but sun trying to appear.
In honour of Mushroom, my drinking buddy in Hong Kong, I visited the mushroom museum a few kms from Saumur.
Some facts
Saumar has 2000 kms of underground galleries carved out of the tufa.
Also plenty of manure from the equestrian school!
The temperature is between 10 and 18 degrees and the humidity 90%.
80% of white button mushrooms sold in France are grown in the Saumur region.
The shii-take mushrooms take their formation stimulated by shock from vibration, noise, water or heat. Poor things!
Stopped a few kms further at a lovely aires next to a meadow of poppies and other wild flowers which led on to the river. Sacha had a great time exploring and swimming.
Went on to chateau Mont Geoffroy which was near a village called Maze. True to its name the roads were confusing. The sat nav kept trying to take me down roads which had been blocked off. Even at a crossroad only a km away from the chateau there was no sign for it.
Anyway I found it and had a guided tour as the family still live there. There were mostly things from the late 1700's which is quite new compared to the other chateaux I have visited.
Whilst shuffling around I had a minor bout of SVT and some more later which made me take an extra tablet. So far so good.
Talking to a women on the tour she told me that Brissac is a must to see- so here I am and shall visit the castle tomorrow.
Seeing such nice Aires along the way I thought I would stay in one at Brissac. Unfortunately I don't feel comfortable here. It is just a public carpark Even Sach didn't want to get out of the van and kept wanting to go back in.
At 6.30 couldn't get any food in the one restaurant that was open. Told to wait until later. Bought a small quiche and fresh bread at the boulangerie and had that back at the van with sardines. Oh and a large meringue. Oh and some fruit. Oh and some wine.
Walked alongside the little river but it was very hot and humid for a change.
Feel better now that a couple of other camping vans have turned up.
