After a peaceful night's sleep I managed to make coffee by plugging into the electricity. This was only after retrieving the 'jeton'with various implements when it became stuck. I was just about to leave when 2 Brits started a conversation with me. One has bought the house near where I was parked which is an amazing location. I was pleased that they reminded me that it is market day the market is held in a fantastic 17 century covered market. I enjoyed the jaunty music played on speakers on the way. There was a lovely atmosphere and I bought some cheeses and a small honeydew melon, which I have now eaten, was the best.
Then I drove a short distance to see La Mercerie which is a huge frontage of an impressive castle started in 1930s. But frontage is all that there is. The two brothers ran out of money and it was never finished. Grand designs gone wrong.
Then I went cross country to the pleasant town of La Rochefoucald. I let Sacha cool off by having a dip in the river and then we walked around the castle.
As I am interested in geology, I felt the need to visit the little walled city of Rochechouart where I am now.
200 million years ago a 1.5km-radius lump of intergalactic rock slammed into the earth with the force of 14 million Hiroshima bombs. It created a crater 20kms wide and 6 kms deep. The only visible things to see are the unusual rocks which have been used as building materials.
I asked the lady at the tourist office re a campsite as I need a shower. She told me that I could camp by the castle. Again the best spot in town and I am under a huge shady tree.
However, some idiot across the way has a motorbike which he is taking kids for joyrides through the car park.
