The picture is of me in front of Chateau Brissac.
Had coffee in chocolate croissant in Brissac. Still not comfortable there especially as the fellow in the basic bar charged me double the normal price for a coffee.
Visited the chateau which was fascinating as it has been home to the Dukes of Brissac since the 1502. The family still live there. While we were there the lady of the house came out with one of her daughters looking very happy.
As you can imagine it was all very ornate. There was a theatre and there was the bedroom used by Louis XIII. One of the tallest chateaux - seven storeys high set in 800 hectares.
The guide made no attempt to
explain anything in English. He was obviously very knowledgeable as he would speak for 10 minutes very quickly on something we had been given 4 lines of translation.
There were photos of Roger Moore, Sophia Loren and Depardieu amongst others.
One of the wives was a good business woman as she started the Veuve Clicquot brand.
Almost each chateau I have visited had a picture of the Queen Mother. She certainly got around.
It was still hot and muggy. Drove onto Angers (later I passed by a place called Angrie) and had planned to visit the big 13C fortress but I found the heat debilitating so didn't go in.
Had lunch of a galette- like a crepe but made into an envelope which was filled with ham egg and cheese. I walked round the old town which even had houses from 13C.
Again I felt exhausted so decided to move on.
However if the SVT had started up I couldn't be in a better place as Angers has a huge cardiology hospital.
I was reluctant to leave the Loire Valley and was going to visit one more chateau Chateau de Serrant only 15kms away but when I got there it looked similar to Brissac and it was still hot. I put the air con on in the car and drove onto East Brittany. I thought I might stop on a campsite on the way but there really weren't any until I reached here at a lake near Ploermel 150 kms on.
The reception was all locked up but a women came along and said she ran it. Told me to find myself a pitch and pay her the 8 euros tomorrow.
Made dinner on the induction plate and had a glass of wine.
It is now 10 pm and I am sitting beside this mirror like lake with no one around. Although I expect it will be busy in the day. Sacha is having a wonderful time prowling around.
