After yesterday's terrible weather of wind and rain all day it was nice and sunny today. Greetje and Frits invited me for coffee and for us to walk together to the market in Brielle. So I quickly packed up and checked out. I told reception that the Internet I had payed for was useless and they agreed but didn't offer a refund.
Greetje and Frits are fun to be with and yet she has had an operation for a brain tumour and he has cancer of the duodenum. They both look a picture of health and have a great sense of humour.
I left Brielle and drove to Belgium via various bridges and tunnels. Again I was held up by a bridge raising up and as usual sat nav took me along some rough tracks.
Eventually outside Ghent I stopped and with sat nav looked for the nearest campsite. Bit of a nightmare finding it with the spaghetti junctions. It was at baarmeersen which is a very sporting area. They wanted €20 and it wasn't worth it and I went and parked alongside a wide canal which was pleasant. Loads of joggers, cyclists, roller skaters and on the canal people rowing skiffs. Saw a new sport- kayak paddle polo pushing a ball around with the paddles and plopping it into a low basketball net.
Although it was a public parking area I put up the table and enjoyed a glass of wine and some chicken and potato salad I had bought at the market.
Sacha fell into the canal. I heard a splash and she had her front paws spread along the slippery concrete ledge but couldn't pull herself up. She was just looking at me in desperation. So I had to slide down the grass bank and nearly slipped in myself on the ledge before managing to pull her out.
