We really loved the road down the Blue ridge parkway the views were fantastic and there were very few other people and cars. We pottered down stopping all the time to relish the walks and the viewpoints. Finally we got to the end (550 miles) and reluctantly hit the main roads again. We headed east towards Memphis and were delighted to find that the state parks are all opens and we can camp and even have a hot shower!!!!they are also very reasonable, about £8 a night .
We spent 2 nights in Tishomingo state park in Alabama. We were the only visitors and there were miles and miles of trails which we explored, doing 6 miles one day! We enjoyed campfires and despite going cold at night the weather was again very mild and sunny.
Yesterday we arrived in Memphis and headed for the RV park right next to Graceland. Having parked up we then spent 3 hours seeing the house and grounds and then various other displays. All were well done and there was constant Elvis music everywhere. The hotel next to us is the heartbreak hotel and we are camped on hound dog lane!!!!!!
I must say we did really enjoy it all , being so American and so organised. There were few people around which helped too.
I am sitting in a covered area where there is live radio all dedicated to Elvis 24 hours a day!!!!!!!
Today we will go into the centre of Memphis and then head south to Tupelo and then onto the Natchez trace parkway which is another stretch of quiet road which stretches across several states . We have been in and out of Tennessee, Alabama and mississippi . People continue to be friendly and helpful and we love the drawl!!!!!
