We loved Gettysburg a small town that thrives around the civil war memorials. The actual battle site is amazing and perfectly preserved. We walked around admiring the many memorials to all the different regiments who were fighting . The museum is very interesting and there is what is called a cyclorama which is an enormous circular painting which was completed in 1865 to commemorate the battle of Gettysburg and which is stunning in its scope.
The weather has been amazingly warm and sunny and we have profited from it whilst driving first the Skyline drive and then on to the Blue Ridge parkway which runs for about 450 miles along the Shenandoah and the Appalachian mountains. We have idled along enjoying the views and taking some of the trails to walk and enjoy the scenery.
Yesterday we dropped down into the little town of Floyd where the local store has live bands who play wonderful bluegrass music. Last night we sat and listened for about 2 hours tapping our feet and thoroughly enjoying the experience. There were about 100 people there all with their wonderful southern accents which are so delightful to listen too!!!!
We are carrying on down the Blue ridge Parkway today and again it is unseasonably warm and sunny! We are so lucky, everyone says that it could be so different, rainy and cold.
We have booked 2 nights in a hotel in New Orleans for Christmas it was only
£60 for the 2 nights!!!! Should be good!
