The roads were not too bad coming down from Dawson creek, not enough snow to stop the traffic anyway. We did not see a lot of the scenery at that point because it was grey and although the snow was light it seemed to fill the air. Jasper was very quiet and we were not tempted to stay long. The campsites are good in that they have hot showers but they are expensive to use . Also you have to buy passes for the national park and these are 20 dollars a day too.
The Icefields parkway runs between Jasper and Banff with lake Louise in the middle. This was a fantastic run through the Columbia Icefield with lots and lots of other glaciers on the way. The scenery was amazing and we were so lucky that the sun came out and we were able to see everything. Although the route was posted as in poor driving conditions we actually thought that the road was better than others we have been on.
Lake louise had a major power blackout so we couldn't even shop! But we went up to the lake and the Chateau and had a walk round and a hot chocolate in the hotel which is very smart.
We got to Banff on Thursday and it is gorgeous. We decided to have 2 nights in a hotel and we have done some fabulous walks from the town, yesterday doing about 12 km. the sun came out for us and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking.it is not too cold and the snow is very powdery to walk on.
We are moving on today and heading for glacier national park which is back in the USA
