The snow was left behind quickly and we travelled along the I 90 at a gentle pace , enjoying the tranquil landscape and the neat tidy farmsteads. There was even a reference to the Amish people and it was easy to believe that this was their sort of area.
We spent our nights courtesy of Walmart as there are no campsites or RV parks open anywhere.
The weather has been very sunny with blue skies and really very mild given that it is November.everyone tells us that it could have been very different with feet of snow and arctic temps. Everyone is getting their snowmobiles ready to use! The hunting season is on and we have to wear our high viz vests when walking to make sure that we can be seen!!! We haven't seen any large animals but apparently there are loads of deer and moose around. We have certainly seen lots of dead ones in the backs of the pick up tricks that everyone uses!!!!!!!
We travelled across Wisconsin and then north into Michigan. This has turned out to be so so scenic. We followed the highway along lake Michigan, very beautiful indeed and then we hit lake Superior. This is breathtaking in its size, you think that you must be by the sea. The beaches are white sand and totally unspoilt. We have hardly seen anyone for the last few days as we wandered along the shoreline, visiting the Pictured rocks and marvelling at their colours. There are also lots of waterfalls to visit and walk to.
We have camped out in wild campsites miles from anywhere with lakes and the trees as far as the eye can see. Really peaceful. We have done walks and generally relaxed enjoying the continued unseasonal warmth and sun. Last night the local sheriff turned up at the campsite and was so friendly and chatty. She sat by our campfire with us and we talked awhile. She was interested in our travels .
Today we are in the town which is just across the lake from the Canadian border and we will probably cross later. Apparently there is a system of locks to allow the huge boats to exit and enter lakes superior and Michigan.we may go there first .
We have contacted Terry's uncle in Toronto and they have said we will be welcome to visit when we get there. We have said it will probably be another few days as we will travel down the coastline of lake Huron first before crossing to Toronto. It will be nice to stop in a house for a few days and tidy up the truck and even do some cleaning maybe!!! We have met his uncle and aunt when they came to Wales a few years ago and they sounded very welcoming on the phone !!!
