I can't believe that I have let so much time go by since my last blog . I can only plead that we have been rolling along so quickly that we haven't had a minute to spare!!!!!!!
We spent a wonderful week with John and Lisa in Texarkana and we ate lots and played games and went for walks around the town. They are such amazing hosts and the days flew by.
Leaving there we drove down to the coast arriving in Pensacola in time for the 12 th night celebration which involved lots of floats and people dressed up and generally having a good time. They were throwing gifts from the floats and we ended up with lots of gaudy beads which will adorn the Xmas tree next time!!! The naval museum was awesome , it is huge and full of planes and displays. The guide is an ex pilot who really knew his planes and was full of information . The I max theatre was stunning too!
The road along the coast is gorgeous and we drove the 30 a which is a well known stretch of road that passes through towns like Seaside which is where the film the Truman Show was filmed. It is so so clean and neat and very up market with lots and lots of range rovers and porsches. We did some fabulous walks along the pristine white sand beaches and marvelled at the turquoise sea. The state park is right by the beach and we stayed for 2 nights!!!!
We visited a series of further state parks along the coast . Each is very clean and quiet and inevitably we spend lots of time talking to people!!!!
The weather is amazing , in the late 20 s and sunny too . It feels so good to be in shorts and t shirts but of course there are insects and we have to put sun tan lotion on too. Still it is a small price to pay?!!!!!!
This weekend we were invited to join some members of the Florida Landrover club . We are in The forest near Inverness and we have really enjoyed the weekend meeting new friends and being taken out on the trails mostly in a Discovery3 which is so comfortable you don't notice the bumps and which has climbed up some amazing steep sides!!!! I hardly squeaked at all but did have my eyes shut a lot!!! Thank you Gabe !!!!!!
We met Drew and Danielle a delightful couple from novia scotia who have driven from there in their1960 series 11 pulling a small caravan!!!!
We have been well fed , unbelievably they cooked 3 whole chickens over the campfire and produced mash and fresh green beans to accompany them. Delicious!!!!!! Tonight we have been treated to another fantastic meal which was fresh fish, squash and kale from their garden and was truly memorable!!! Thank you David and Lucy, a fascinating couple.
Cosmo organised the weekend and introduced us to his delightful children and we also met Mark who was in charge of the chicken cooking and who seasoned them to perfection!!!!!!!
Tomorrow we will drive into Orlando and try to book some accommodation for when Adam and francesca join us early next month , Gabe has invited us to his house from where we can get organised.
Time is running away now and the end is looming, can't believe that it is 2 years since we started out, where did the time go? But the memories will always be there.
We are hoping to get down to the Everglades and then key west to reach the end of the road !!!
