We arrived at the Monte Leon reserve in the evening. it was a good 25 km to the coast from the entrance by the road. The place is so named because of the huge rocky promontory which resembles a lion lying down. we were camped right by the beach on the cliff type and again we were the only campers there. There was a little cafe there but no customers so we felt obliged to buy some homemade jam tarts! the reserve has all the usual animals but makes a big thing about the pumas, there were lots of signs warning us about what to do if you came across one. Sadly we only saw the paw prints, I suppose that it proved that they were there. There is a huge penguin colony, 60,000 nesting pairs, so the pumas have plenty of food .we then crossed the Magellan Straits on a ferry and landed in Tierra del Fuego. It felt really exciting to be so far south. we stopped in Rio Grande and have decided to have a couple of days before we head to Ushuaia the furthest south we will go.
