I think that I forgot to mention how much we enjoyed the ruins at Copan . They were truly stunning and the atmosphere was quite calm and peaceful. Today we are in Guatemala and have visited the ruins at Quirogua which were mostly the tall standing stones and again very atmospheric.
We really had an amazing time in El Salvador . We were entertained and fed . We spent 3 days by the most wonderful beach where the water was so warm you couldn't put you feet in the rock pools they were too hot! We slept right by the beach and behaved like holidaymakers, sitting in the hammocks and reading lots!
Then we headed up into the mountains. There were 7 volcanos in a row, really impressive!!! The village was lovely and we were offered the use of a house in the village where we could use the kitchen and the bathroom. No one could understand why we chose to sleep in the trucks but they were on the road outside the house and even with the police station at the end of the road it seemed the best option!
We did some lovely walks and even got to pick coffee on a coffee farm which was quite an experience for us!!! The locals were not sure what to make of us but were very friendly. We even had to do the walk to and from the house which took 1 hour each way and really made us appreciate the locals who start work at 7 in the morning having walked up the mountain from the village.
We are now in Guatemala having had to say goodbye to all the lovely people we met who have been so amazing.
Tomorrow we head to Tikkal although it is about 150 km from here. Tonight we are right by a huge lake in the grounds of a very exclusive hotel. The place is called Rio Dulce.
