We moved across to Tierra del Fuego getting the ferry across the straits of Magellan. The roads through Chile were pretty horrendous but we are back to Tarmac now. We arrived at the Monte Leon reserve in the evening. it was a good 25 km to the coast from the entrance by the road. The place is so named because of the huge rocky promontory which resembles a lion lying down. we were camped right by the beach on the cliff type and again we were the only campers there. We have continued south and we spent a very interesting time at a place called Bahia Bustamente where we did a 3 hour boat trip, laid on just for us. We saw hundreds of penguins and sealions all very close to the boat. There were 1000's of birds small and large and it was a fascinating experience. So here we are nearly 3 weeks into the travelling and what is it like? Well as most of the roads that we travel on are gravel our speed is usually a steady 35-40 mph. There are regular stops to admire the wildlife and try and take some photos, although sadly they have usually disappeared from view before we do. Have been wandering down the coast for the last few days and we are now in Patagonia. It is difficult to describe the landscape. No trees few homesteads and not many cars. We have spent the last 3 nights on vast expanses of empty beaches . We have seen a colony of 5000 sea lions, young and old. The noise and the smell was incredible.we saw 1000s of green parrots and even some flamingos by the road. This area is where we hope to see whales and penguins. All good
