We packed up and drove a couple of hours to Walpole. We set up camp at Rest Point and went to explore.
We headed for Circular Pool, it is part of the Franklin River. The pools are covered in foam and the currents of the pools flow in circles. The foam is a result of chemical compounds found in the plants.
The foam actually gets stained by the eucalypt leaves in the water and looks like a cinnamon topping on the cappuccino-like frothy foam..(always thinking about coffee).
The next morning we packed up and headed for the Valley Of The Giants treetop walk. These trees are some of the oldest in Australia and the Red Tingle tree is only found in this area. The treetop walk is forty metres off the ground and you enter via a very sturdy looking steel bridge. I say "sturdy looking" because when you get out onto the suspended section it actually moves around. This is not helped by a husband who thinks its funny to bounce along behind you. I'm not really scared of heights, but this walk does test your nerves. It was also windy and I didn't love that :). The kids also showed no fear running along and jumping around...
The second part of the walk is at ground level. I know it doesn't sound exciting when I say we looked at trees, but I can't explain how amazing these giant old trees are. You can walk through some of the trunks. They did have a tree that people used to drive their cars through, until they worked out the fumes were killing it...go figure. That tree no longer stands.
After our tree adventure we headed for Green Pool. This pool is a natural sea pool just out of Denmark. You have to park your car and walk a short distance, then you are met with a spectacular blue green ocean pool. We would have loved to swim there but it was about 15deg and windy so we had to pass.
We headed to Denmark for lunch. we met the nicest old lady there who kept asking if we had a spare bed :) she told us lots of stories about her caravaning days across all the dirt tracks. We really have it very easy today. After lunch we headed to Albany, our next stop for a couple of days.
