We left Esperance and headed north to the mining town of Kalgoorlie. I wasn't sure what to expect with this mining town but I was pleasantly surprised. As far as mining towns go it has everything you would need, and the town is set out quite well.
The main attraction to the town is the Superpit. In essence it's a giant hole in the ground that is the life blood of the town. However they have created this great viewing platform that allows you to look straight down into the pit and watch the action. Even for a girl this was very impressive.
We stayed for two nights and on the second day we had a look around town which included the town hall and the museum. The museum was fantastic. It actually has a headstand ( the old cage winch for the underground mine) right at the front of the building. Once you have looked around the museum you can ride the elevator to the top of the headstand. It gives you a great view of the town. The museum also has a vault with large pieces of gold on display.
The next morning we packed up and started our journey across the Nullabor.
