We arrived in Albany and set up camp at Middleton Beach. I fell victim to the lure of an ensuite site again...it's so much easier with the kids.
We went for a drive around the coast and admired the beautiful coastline again. We stopped to look at the replica of the brig Amity. The brig Amity took early settlers from Sydney to their new homes in Albany. There were generally fifty people on board, not sure I would have loved being on a ship that small with fifty people. It was late in the afternoon so the lovely man let us go on for free. On our way home we saw Albany's famous Dog Rock. I loved it, the rock really looks like a dog and they've even painted a collar on it.
The next morning we started the day with a walk/run along the coast boardwalk. The kids rode their bikes, it was beautiful. We spent the rest of the day catching up on jobs.
On our last day in Albany we started the day with breakfast at my favourite WA food chain Dome...we really need one of these in NSW. After breakfast we went to visit the Gap and the Natural Bridge. The Gap and the Natural Bridge where created when molten rock rose from deep in the earths crust. Along with a little help from the wind and waves these natural rock formations occurred. Apparently there is identical rock formations on the northern coast of Antarctica. The view was spectacular. Just when I think I've seen everything we see another part of Australia that is mind blowing. On our way back to the car we were greeted by a brown snake...we asked him to smile for the camera then continued on our way. Our next stop was the Wind Farm. I was prepared to stand at a distance in one spot and view the windmills ( not so exciting) but they have created a number of paths and lookouts to give you a great view of the windmills. The sound they make is amazing and you can walk right up to one of them. They also have the ocean as their backdrop. It was definitely something to see.
That night we had coffee with some family friends before heading home.
The next morning we packed up and headed for Esperance.
