Before leaving Fitzroy Crossing we talked to people from the Information centre and various locals about travelling the Fairfield Leopold Downs road with our van...some said yes, some said no....this left us totally confused....without a straight answer and not wanting to miss anything we decided to take it on. As it turned out the road was fine. There were a couple of creek crossings but nothing that would stop the Jayco.
We arrived at Tunnel Ceek National Park around lunch time.
The Tunnel Creek walk involves walking through a cave system that has been washed out by the river. We fitted our head torches and reef shoes and headed to the cave. You enter through a small section in the rocks and immediately have to wade through water waist deep. This is made more exciting/scary because there are fresh water crocodiles present (yes nana, I am trying to feed the children to the crocs again). You slowly continue along the tunnel, crossing at various sections. We spotted a couple of crocs and some fish. When you are almost at the end it opens out to a large cave filled with bats. This made me more nervous than the crocs. Continuing on you reach the end which opens to a small creek. There is also some amazing aboriginal art work. To exit you need to retrace your steps back through the cave. The kids were so excited about walking through the water, and it was such a cool place to be at the hottest time of the day. This walk is definitely on my favourites list. We all made it out alive, had some lunch and headed 30ks up the road to our stop for the night Windjana Gorge.
We set up camp, and planned to do the gorge walk the next morning.

Mum/Nana/Mil- Thank goodness you still have both the kids, be careful they don't try and feed the parents to the crocs....:-)
