Good morning all.
We hope you are all well - get in touch on the "Blog Message tab" and let us know how you all are?
It’s remarkable what you can do with no money! Since we are in saving mode we have been trying not to spend any money at all we keep visiting local haunts. We visited Wreck Beach which by the way is a WEIRD place – it’s a nude beach just behind the University of British Columbia (no we didn’t get naked!). We were actually quite surprised by it – as European beaches are modest compared to this place and it’s mostly an over 60’s beach! Let’s just say we didn’t stay very long – mainly because we felt VERY uncomfortable in this place (in our opinion), and honestly the beach is not that nice either.
Anyhow luckily we have better beaches like Kits and English Bay to visit, where we watched the Celebration of Light, an annual fireworks display spanning over 2 weeks. We have also visited Lighthouse Park which is about an hour by bus from central Vancouver. This place was another gem – just like Deep Cove – far enough out to be less busy, but with some spectacular views of the bay and the city. Its also a national Park so there are some great walking trails through the forest – reminded us a bit of Ashridge.
We are, slowly but surely ticking off the left-overs on our Vancouver list, Dave still wants to swim in the ocean, and we may visit a nice seaside town of WhiteRock which is near the US Border.
Work has been very prosperous of late - Megan is still working for Pixar and was lucky enough to get the 4 of us free Lion King Theatre tickets (arhh the perks of a job in the film industry!). That was last weekend, and honestly it was great – Dave had seen it before but enjoyed it a lot more this time around, and as it was Megan’s first time – she was also very impressed. The actor’s who played Scar and Rafiki were by far the best… Dave also was given a $150 restaurant voucher from work for doing a good job, and we took advantage visiting a local restaurant called Joe Fortes. We shared the roof terrace with John Lithgow (3rd rock from the sun) and Brian Cox (Braveheart and Xmen 2), look at us eating with the stars! It was a beautiful evening and the food was exquisite – Mussels and Chowder for appetisers, Salmon and Halibut for Dave and Scallops for Megan and a HUGE cheesecake for desert. Added to with a few beers and a champagne cocktail! Now that’s appreciation for doing a good job!
The only money Dave has spent went on his new Tattoo, which now healed looks perfect!
Anyhow 3 and a half weeks to go until Alaska – and we are very excited as we have just found out there is an optional excursion to the Yukon so we may get to see it after all! Very excited!
