So it was off to Seattle for the weekend. We were extremely lucky and Dave got to borrow a company car for the weekend – so no car hire charges – woohoo! The border was an experience, and took little over an hour to get through the queues and get stamped at the station. They are very thorough, checking if we all had jobs (luckily they didn’t hear the dirty jobless student status from Dawn!), where the car was from, what we were doing etc…
It was a straight shot to Seattle Premium Outlets from here, Caroline was so happy! And from there it was only a half hour drive to Seattle – entering just as night fell and a beautiful scene of the glowing Space Needle.
The hostel unfortunately was awful, in a horrible run down area of the city. Dave was quite upset as he has been here before, and the old hostel was a lot better. Well apart from the rubbish room, bad service, a flood, dodgy area and the feeling of not being safe, we were also a good 30 minute walk from town.
Anyhow we made the best of it, visiting the space needle, the museum of Music and Science Fiction, Pikes Place Market (where they throw fish), the first ever Starbucks (of which Caroline and Dawn have picked up tehir Starbucks habit) and of course the Ducks of Seattle (a tour of the city on land/water craft with duck Quakers for extra fun!). We also formed our own Band called “Lost Shoe Creek” and performed in front of an audience for one night only in Seattle (don’t believe me? we have photographic and DVD proof).
We also had a big night out – with copious amounts of alcohol, a Cowboy bar with dancing on the tables and a hangover from hell the next day!
All in all Seattle was a fun experience – was just a shame about the hostel that gave us all a bad initial impression of the city.
Back to Vancouver for the Grande finale of the girls visit… and probably more Chocolate!
