Good Morning to you all.
So last week was Megan and I’s 2 year anniversary – can you believe it’s been 2 years? So we had a week of fun.
Our first port of call was last week, when we decided to take advantage of the glorious weather and head to Vancouver Island. So we got up early to catch the bus, then the train, then another bus, a ferry and then the final bus…. Wow that was a hell of a 5 hour trip!
Especially because navigator extraordinaire Tidey took us to the wrong Skytrain station to start with
Anyhow the Ferry ride was very calm and we sailed through the Gulf Islands and onto Vancouver Island’s, Swartz Bay. We then caught the bus into Victoria, which was suppose to take 40 minutes but because of a protest going on it took one and a half hours. And what were they protesting about? Well apparently Sacred Salmon! Who knew…?
Victoria , the capital of BC, is gorgeous and had a very homely feeling; it actually reminded me a little bit of a Cornwall. (oooh shouldn’t have mentioned that should I mum!). It’s much smaller and prettier than Vancouver and much greener, one of our highlights was a walk around Beacon Hill Park. It has some tremendous coastline, the worlds tallest Totem Pole and was generally a really chilled out picnic spot! We were even lucky enough to see and photograph a woodpecker (I was really excited as I have never seen a wild woodpecker before!).
We also took a boat trip around the peninsula of Vancouver Island and although we didn’t see any of the whales we did see porpoises and some beautiful coastal forests. Megan and I had to wear these huge all weather suits which were so funny! She looked like a little Michelin / Sumo Man (no comment on me). Our second day we visited the Castle (Stately Manor in our terms), Fisherman’s Wharf where we saw Harbour Seals feeding, and had the best Fish and Chips this side of Happy Valley! It was called Barbs, where they catch the fish that morning – very tasty, Megan even had battered Salmon (to spite the protestors!). On the Ferry coming home we spent the whole time out lazing in the sun, so much so that we both now have tan lines - all in all a very good weekend.
So it was back to Vancouver and as the week moved on, we had even better weather. I biked all the way around the seawall in Stanley Park, and we went for a nightly walk to a nearby Lake and community park. We also watched Iron Man 2 which was good, and went for very cheap but huge, Vietnamese meal. The weekend soon came (thank god!) and we went for our anniversary meal at the Keg in Granville Island (absolutely amasing steak). Yesterday we had a BBQ on the beach with Ewan, Mindy, Danny and an old friend of mine from Sydney Elkie (who is in Vancouver for the week). We may have digested more sand than anything else but it was good fun and a good day.
So it is back to work this week (yay!) hopefully the sun will stay out.
Dan is still job hunting so please send him good luck vibes as he leaves in a month and a half so really could do with the money. Oooh, Megan and I also booked our flights to Central America, so its work, work, work now until Caroline and Dawn get here.
Have a good week and we will upload some pictures soon
