We received a guided tour of Broken Hill from Kylie's cousin Shane.A walk along the main street, a visit to the mine memorial atop South mine (fortunately there are fewer deaths these days than early last century), a walk to the top of the mountain to view the Sculptures, a drive out to Silverton for a drink in the pub and photos of the Mad Max car as well as a visit to the museum (you could have spent hours in here looking at all the things they had on show), tours of a few of the art galleries and a trip to an underground mine, which due to recent claustrophobic event (in the back of the Adaway-Hynes' Pajero) Kylie could not cope going under.
The landscape around broken hill is so orange. You could tell where there was or there was supposed to be water when there was a collection of trees in the otherwise barren landscape. We haven't experienced any oppressive heat here, or at any point on our trip thus far - I am sure we will at some stage.
It was really good to catch up with Shane and Harlen-Jay, who were wonderful and generous hosts. We also got to watch a few of their extensive collection of DVDs.
We are hitting the road to Menindee this afternoon. Sorry - the photos for Adelaide, Clare and Broken Hill to follow.
