Crew Frivolous
Woke with heavy heads after a late night of sitting around the camp fire shooting the breeze with Ken and some very sensible and controlled drinking. Ken had the fire going in preparation for his bacon and eggs and a magnificent breaky it was. We bid the girls farewell and headed off to find Ken's mates tinny for our fishing expedition. First thing to sort out was which tinny, there was three there, the obvious choice was the one with the motor on it. After many attempts to start it ken made a phone call, wrong boat, wrong motor. The motor was in the locked donger and no keys to be found. Using all our teenage skills we managed to open the locked door to retrieve the boat motor. Next trick was to find the matching fuel tank, that was in the locked shed. A sheet of iron removed from the side of the shed and we were on our way, how easy was that. Towed the boat down to the creek pushed it off the boat trailer. A minor issue arose, the boat trailer bent in half, it appears that the rust had got to it. No time to ponder how we are to get the boat out of the water, there is fishing to be done.
From Chile Creek we trawled all the way across the without any luck, the type of fishing we are getting used to. Ken said lets go to this reef, I’ll guarantee you a fish. The first pass across the reef both Joe and I hooked fish with mine being two Trevally on the one lure. So back and forth we went catching Trevally, Queenies and some Barracuda. Tiring from the constant removing fish from hooks we moved on in search of bigger and better fish, Blue Bone. The boat was anchored on a reef off the point and we were now using hand lines and bait. This proved to not very fruitful with the only fish caught being one ugly and very cantankerous Moray Eel. So back to the trawling, a few Cod, a Mangrove Jack and some more Trevally, overall an excellent days fishing.
What to do with the broken trailer. We went back to the Community to fetch some materials to hold the trailer together. Once there we thought it easier to use another serviceable trailer to retrieve the boat rather than the broken trailer. So we pushed one of the other tinnies off its trailer and found a wooden plank to hold the broken trailer together. After an hour and a half we had all trailers, boats, motor and fuel tank back where they belonged, and sheet back on the shed. Two fish were kept ourselves and another four was given to Kens friend at the Community. Back to camp where the brave hunters were greeted with warm smiles from two very relaxed wives who had spent a relaxing day at the campsite. An excellent feed of fish was had to end a very good day.
