We caught the 8am bus up to the Remarkables mountain, it was a good job we didn't decide to drive it with the steep cliff face drops and hairpin turns! We got ourselves kitted out in all our ski gear (very cool) and we had half an hour to pass before our first lesson. So, being brave and stupid we decided to get straight on the snow and after we both lost control on the hill after not being able to stop we both came crashing down, falling like a ton of bricks into the snow. Perhaps it was better to wait for the lesson.
Our first lesson was being taught the basics from how to carry your skis to the the all important how to stop! Claire was the first person in the group to fall over and it turned out to be a lot harder than it looked. We spent the full hour and half going up and down the beginner slope and getting used to it. We stayed on for a bit of a practice after the lesson as we had to wait a couple of hours before our second. This one was learning how to master the art of turning. Dave picked it up straight away, where as Claire could turn left perfectly, but turning right was a complete no-go! We were just going up and down the slope for most of the lesson - dont think we are skilled enough at all for the mountain yet!
After a good hours on the snow, we soon had to give up as the blood circulation in our feet was starting to cut off and Claire had really bad cramp in her left leg!
We went out in the evening again with Sian and Dave to the bars and met up with Charlie and her old travel buddy, Ben. Pretty good night!
