We got up early to wash our clothes but the annoying woman at the campsite had locked the laundry door and wouldn't let us use it. We had stayed the night in Franz Josef as there was allot more to do there than fox glacier. We drove up to the Franz Josef glacier but we couldn't be bothered going onto it as we were both still knackered from the day before. We then left for Hokitiki, not the most exciting place in the world but we had a couple of days left to waste before getting back to Christchurch. I managed to dent the side of the van while we were getting petrol, some fool put an invisible metal pole beside where I was parked, and at least we got the full insurance so we didn't have to pay a thing. Stayed at a campsite and read some books, not much else.
Next day we drove up to Graymouth, this could be the ugliest place in the world. There is nothing nice about this city whatsoever. We drove up to Pancake rocks, they are blowholes when the tide is high but annoyingly we missed the high tide so we just had to make do with looking at the cliffs.
Next we headed over Arthurs Pass, which went right through the mountain range in the middle of the island. We drove half way and stopped for the night, the weather was a bit poop and we couldn't see anything, hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
Next day the weather was allot better so we finished our drive over Arthurs Pass, we checked into a campsite quite close to Christchurch city centre, we are both getting bored of the campervan now and are actually looking forward to staying in a hostel.
Today we headed into town and sat on the internet for a while, Brid did some shopping and wasted some more money on rubbish that will never see the light of day. We just sat and watched TV tonight at the campsite.
Today we checked out of the campsite and found a hostel for the next 3 days. Brid met her friend from home Claire and we had lunch at a cafe. We packed up all our stuff which was really annoying as we hadn't done it in ages and checked into the hostel. The hostel seemed nice and we were happy to have people to talk to. We headed out later on to meet Claire and her friend from work for a drink, only ended up having a couple before heading back to the hostel.
Next day we headed to the supermarket to buy some supplies, it had been at least 6 months since I'd had chips cheese and gravy so I was determined to have some tonight. We ended up going to claries to do some drinking We headed into town and worked our way through a couple of bars, even managing to get our picture taken with some New Zealand Celeb, god knows who he was but he had an entourage of about 3. We ended up meeting one of Claire's mates from work who seemed to be afraid to buy booze as he didn't buy us one round all night. I tried to buy chips and cheese on the way home but the woman though I was mental.
After a lie in we headed off to a cafe to meet Claire, we decided to get an Indian later on and a DVD, I finally managed to make my chips, cheese and gravy. Was so chuffed.
Up bright and early to check out today as we're headed off to Australia, somehow Brid managed to pack her bag although I thought I was gonna explode at one point. Brid met Claire to say her goodbyes before we caught a bus to the airport, we got stung by some annoying departure tax which was supposed to be paid already but the ugly woman wasn't gonna let us past if we didn't pay it so we eventually had to. Brid got the worst sausage roll of her life and my chicken pie wasn't much better in the airport. Brid sat and worked out to this point we have spent 241 hours on buses which is 10 days.
