Cestria v Uppakra IF (SWE)
The 2 unbeaten teams met today to decide who would progress as group winners. In absolutely sweltering heat the girls kicked off. We soon discovered we were playing a typically Scandinavian team who were more interested in trying to stifle us rather than win the game themselves. It turned into a game of defence v attack and we went close on numerous occasions with either the woodwork or the impressive gk coming to the Swedes rescue. The girls were by no means playing well and the Swedes were delighted to go in 0-0 at half time.
Cestria 0-0 Uppakra IF (SWE)
After some 'encouraging' words at half time the pattern of the first half resumed with our opponents not crossing the halfway line and looking for the 0-0 result. Eventually the goal came in the 34th minute after great work down the left from the speedy Rosie Mc who crossed it for Rosie Young to tap in.
Did the Swedes now go for the goal and get back in the game? Weirdly no! They were quite happy to be beat 1-0 for some reason.
A forgettable game where we didn't play our best but were never in any danger of being beat by our dogged, well organised opponents. They could be a bit of a banana skin for someone in the knockout rounds. They don't carry a goal threat but are hard to break down.
FT Cestria 1-0 Uppakra IF (SWE)
The big knockout games start tomorrow and we will be playing either Kungsbacka DFF (SWE) or Stars n Stripes (USA) at 1:35pm Sweden time.
