World Youth Cup Final
Cestria v Vartans IK (SWE). Att 18,000
This was always gonna be a tough game against the holders who had a line up boasting 6 Swedish internationals but had already been beaten this week by the Italians we knocked out in last 16.
There was always only gonna be one goal in it and the Swedes got it in the first 10 minutes, after us dominating possession-wise they broke away quickly and while we appealed for an offside and stood, their midfielder took the ball and slotted past Amy.
We knocked the ball about well but looked a bit leggy to be honest while the Swedes often had 8 behind the ball and were relying on the counter attack which was an ideal tactic in the heat as we couldn't force a way through all the opposing bodies. We did have a cracking chance though which, on another day could easily have gone in. Meg knocked a freekick in and Zoe beat the offside trap to have a free header on goal from 6 yards out but connected with it too well instead of glancing it in, very unlucky!

Second half went much along the same lines with us in possession but not the energy to make an impression on the 9 man barrier put up by the Swedes. We did have another chance when Jess had the gk to beat but managed to toe poke it to the keeper under pressure from the defenders. Amy made a good high save from a speculative shot but other than that had little to do but to be fair the Swedish keeper didn't have much to do either. In my opinion the first team to score were always gonna win this as it proved really hard to force the issue in the energy sapping conditions.
