This morning saw us take on Almhults IF in our first group game at the Gothia Cup. The girls were itching to get out of the traps and get started and they didn't disappoint!
They started like a train and were ahead through Maddie with a typical poachers finish. Goals followed from Jess 2, having a stormer, a Zoe penalty after some Beth trickery resulted in a trip, Maddie and Zoe adding another and Rosie capping a memorable debut with a goal with her first touch. 7-0 half time.
Megan J and Beely came on at half time and proved a real thorn in the Swedish teams side. It wasn't long before Zoe claimed her hattrick with a cracking strike and Beth scored the goal of the game with a Messi-esque run beating 5 players and slotting home.
Manager Lee Sanders had this to say "a positive start to the tournament with a strong first half and opportunities to look at different formations in the second half. A fantastic team performance with one or two exceptional individual performances in what is regarded as the biggest tournament in the world at youth level"
I've included some pics of the opening ceremony which was fantastic. 30000 there in Ullevi stadium. Get through to the final and that's where we'll be playing!! Gonna be really tough though
