Didn't blog last night. Too depressed after venturing into the pub in town to watch the Crows embarrass us again.
Much better day today despite strong winds and drizzling rain. The Cape Range National Park has reopened to Day Visitors so with weather conditions preventing any fishing we decided to investigate the damage caused to the park during the recent floods.
The road was a little damaged at each of the creek crossings and the strength of the water was evident from the movement of rocks, trees and bushes that lined the road, but the most obvious damage was to a couple of the camp sites. One named Lakeside will never again be used for camping. Where the camp sites were once situated is now completely washed into the sea effectively making it an inlet full of water. Some damage was noted at a couple of the others and a few of the camping areas escaped with no apparent damage. The Visitors Centre is closed indefinitely as the water flooded the whole building.
While in the park we decided to walk the Yardie Creek. We did this walk 9 years ago but still enjoyed it today. The red cliffs of the gorge line the sides of the water way that penetrates well back in to the range. It really is a specky gorge and the walk provides numerous panoramic views.
Despite the drizzling rain we still managed a picnic lunch at the mouth of the creek before the 50 or 60km trip back to the park.
We all enjoyed a brief stopover about half way home when an echidna treated us to a tour of its home.
Back at camp now and unfortunately the rain seems to be sticking to the forecast of increasing through the night and continuing through most of tomorrow. At least Tuesday looks ok.
