Seen as we were at a place where we had paid to stay the night, we didn’t rush off. We got some washing done and water filled etc. We then set off for north of Auckland. Our first stop along the way was Mangawhai Heads, the views were nice. We got out and had a walk on a lookout track for over the heads, we had to walk up a wooden spiral staircase to get to the view, beautiful. Further along the drive the views got better, we had pretty much followed the Twin Coast Discovery Highway from Auckalnd up.The road between Mangawhai Heads and Whangarei Heads was nice, we got a good view of Hen and Chicken Islands. We took the highway right round the coast which was beautiful. We had done a lot of driving today to get all the way to Kawakawa as the sun was setting. We decided to stay here somewhere and get on the move tomorrow to see more of the Northlands. After some looking around for a freedom camp spot we found a car park around some sort of council building. It was perfect for the night, a little out of the way plus it was dark already by now and we’ll be getting off early tomorrow. Tea and bed now.
