We got our bags ready and were out of the room for 10.00am. We managed to get a transfer from the holiday park to the airport at 10.30am. There was one other lady getting the transfer as well, who we started talking to. It was freezing and raining outside this morning, great! We got into the van, James said we were picking up a camper from Mighty and the bloke kindly said he'd drop us off at their offices instead of the airport. While we were driving he asked where we were planning to head after picking the camper up. We said we were still unsure but maybe south and work our way north again. He suggested heading north as the weather forecast for Christchurch was particularly bad with snow. He said what about going to Kaikoura first and hopefully we can skip the snow, the lady agreed with him and suggested the same. This did get us a little worried and we said we'd take their advice on board. The guy dropped us off, James went in while I waited with the bags. Only five minutes later he came out with the keys and pointed to the Mighty campervan in the car park. We put our things inside and had a good look around to make sure we knew everything before setting off. We had decided to follow suggestion and head north to Kaikoura but not before going to a supermarket to stock up. The transfer driver had also told us about a big place which was a cheap ish supermarket close by. He did say that if the weather gets bad everything closes and we won't be able to get supplies, so he suggested stocking up well. He said New Zealanders go crazy in bad weather for stocking up. We got to the supermarket and bought what we could. The bread aisle was just about empty and there was hardly any milk, bottled water was really hard to get hold of too. We did also find a shop which sold SIM cards which we bought, once we'd got all of that we set off. We had got sat nav with the van so it was pretty easy to find our way. It was about a two and a half hour drive to Kaikoura. We looked up a place we could camp for free, they call it freedom camping when you have a camper van with a toilet etc. It took some finding, right on the coast there were four camping spots where you had to pay which we didn't want, we spotted a pull in instead. It was pitch black by now and throwing it down, we weren't sure we should actually be here but we were staying. We made some tea, set the bed up and got some sleep.
